Pantone colours of 2021 news

Colours to convey strength and hopefulness

It’s that time of year when Pantone, as the international authority on colour announce the colour trend for the year ahead.  The first thing to note is that for only the second time in 20 years, there are two colours to have on our creative radar; Ultimate Grey and Illumination, to our team that’s Pantone 17-5104 and Pantone 13-0647.

Pantone’s selection process involves looking for colour influences from across the world, in our lifestyles and through technological development. It’s about picking up on trends and the emotions that colour evokes. Given everything that we are all currently experiencing, it’s perhaps understandable that the global mood can’t be reflected in just one colour! Pantone believe this colour pairing will “conjoining deeper feelings of thoughtfulness with the optimistic promise of a sunshine filled day.”

What does that mean for you, we hear you ask? Well the colour of the year filters through into product development and high street trends. Your audience may be subliminally tuned into it for 2021, so it’s a useful power to harness in your creative projects.

We work with the Pantone colour framework everyday here at Systematic, to generate creative ideas and harmonise brand designs, using its psychology and emotion to create impact. If this colour news reminds you of road markings, you’re not alone, but be assured that we’ll find a way to blend your brand with an approach to colour that maximises the engagement of your target audience!
